Kate Nickerson, Olivia Young Combine To No-Hit Post In 6-0 Win

Southern Connecticut softball's Kate Nickerson and Olivia Young combined to no-hit Post in a 6-0 win in the first game of the day in Viera, Fla. The Owls lost to Minot State, 9-0, in the second game and move to 3-3 on the season.

Game 1 – SCSU 6, Post 0
Facing Post for the third time this season, Southern tacked on six runs as Kate Nickerson spun six no-hit innings before Olivia Young pitched a perfect seventh to combine to blank the Eagles. Gianna Iaquinto was 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI while Izzy Ingersoll drove in two runs. Karley Austin was 1-for-3 with a double and three runs scores while Brianna Pearson and Peyten Filippone both drove in a run.

In the 1st, Karley Austin worked a one-out walk and stole single before scoring on Pearson's RBI single to right field to put the Owls on the board. The Owls struck again in the top of the 2nd when Filippone doubled to lead off the inning and moved to third on an error on a hard-hit ball by Young to first base. Ingersoll then blasted a two-run double to right to score both runners and give Southern a 3-0 lead.

In the 3rd, Austin led off with a double and came around to score on Sophia Angiolini's single to center field. In the 4th, Nadia Cestari walked on four pitches to lead off the inning before stealing second and moving to third on a ground ball by Ingersoll. Cheyenne LaTouche hit a ball to first that allowed Cestari to score and give Southern a 5-0 lead. In the 5th, Angiolini was hit by a pitch and scored on a double by Iaquinto as the Owls took a 6-0 lead.

Meanwhile, Nickerson was crusiing on the mound as she retired the first 17 batters she faced before walking a batter in the bottom of the 6th. That runner would be the only one for the day for Post after Young came on in relief in the 7th and retired the three batters she faced.

Game 2 – Minot State 9, SCSU 0
Southern had a tough matchup against Minot State in the nightcap as the Beavers rolled to a 9-0 win in six innings. Ingersoll, Austin, Pearson and Filippone all had hits in the game for the Owls, who couldn't get anything going against MSU.

Ashley Lewis took the loss after giving up four runs – only two of which were earned – in three innings. Giselle DeLutri gave up five runs over 2 1/3 before Moira Collins pitched the final 2/3. Collins held the Beavers scoreless on two hits while striking out two.
