SCSU Softball Falls To Adelphi In NE10 Semifinals

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – No. 8 seeded Southern Connecticut State University softball's Cinderella run in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship tournament ended in a the semifinals with a 3-1 loss to top-seeded Adelphi. The Owls advanced after a pair of upsets and led in the semifinals against the Panthers heading into the bottom of the 6th.

Samantha LaFemina was 2-fo-2 in the game while Jessice Perucki hit a solo home run to account for the Owls' lone run of the game. Perucki got the start on the mound as well and held Adelphi off the board until the 6th.

In the top of the 4th inning, Perucki turned on a 0-1 offering from Adelphi's Lindsey Hibbs and launched an absolute no-doubter over the left field fence to stake the Owls to a 1-0 lead. Perucki retired the side in the bottom half of the inning to make five-straight Panthers sat down in order.

Perucki retired the first two batters in the bottom of the 5th inning to extend her streak to seven-straight Adelphi hitters retired. She then walked a batter, gave up a hit up the middle and walked the bases loaded before getting Brianna Fischer to pop up to left.

In the bottom of the 6th, Perucki gave up a lead off single before getting the next two batters out. Adelphi worked back-to-back walks to load the bases before Panthers' designated player Kendall Wynn hit a bloop over the head of Gabriella Festa that allowed one run to score. Zee Zee Shreter then lined a single up the middle to bring home two more runs and give Adelphi a 3-1 lead.

The hit knocked Perucki from the game after a brilliant performance up to that point. She finished the day with three runs allowed on six hits with five strikeouts as she gave way to Ashley Lewis who got the next batter to pop out. Southern went in order in the top of the 7th.

The Owls finish the year with a record of 19-24.
