SCSU Softball Places Five on Collegiate Sports Communicators Academic All-District Teams

Southern Connecticut State University softball standouts Sophia Angiolini, Izzy Ingersoll, Olivia Young, Nadia Cestari and Brianna Pearson were named to the Collegiate Sports Communicators (CSC) for the 2026 season. To qualify for the award, athletes must be at least a sophomore athletically and academically with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. On the field, athletes must compete in 90% of games or start 66% of them. 

Sophia Angiolini had a phenomenal season for the Owls, while playing multiple positions, which earned her the utility player spot on the Northeast 10 Conference first team. In her sophomore campaign, Angiolini ended the season with 46 hits, nine doubles, a home run and 28 RBI. Also, Angiolini led the Owls in batting average at .359. Defensively, while playing multiple positions, Angiolini had 63 putouts and four assists in 68 chances, with only one error for a fielding percentage of .985. 

After a Northeast 10 Rookie of the Year Award winning season last year, Izzy Ingersoll followed it up with another good season. The sophomore shortstop ended the season with a .335 batting average, 30 runs scored, six doubles, three triples, 70 total bases and her first career home run. Ingersoll led the team in at bats with 164, which ranks 5th in the NE10, tied with Pearson with 30 RBI and led the team in hits with 55. This year, Ingersoll had the 100th hit of her collegiate career, in just her second season.

Along with Angiolini and Ingersoll, Olivia Young had a strong second season with the Owls. Young had a .299 batting average with 40 hits, 11 doubles, one home run 14 walks, three stoled bases and 19 RBI, while starting all 46 games she played. Along with hitting, Young spent some time on the mound as she tossed five innings and struck out four batters, including pitching in a combined no hitter against Post University. 

In her final campaign with the Owls, Nadia Cestari had her best statistical season. Cestari batted a career best .275 with 33 hits, seven doubles and 13 RBI. Cestari drew 14 walks on the season and had ten stoled bases while starting in all 46 games she played in. 

After transferring from Adelphi, Brianna Pearson had a fantastic season first season with the Owls. Pearson had a .331 batting average with 49 hits, 26 runs scored and a home run. Pearson led the team lead in doubles with 11, RBI with 30 and walks with 23, which is good for third in the conference. In addition to her full season stats, Pearson set the Owls record for most hits in a single game when she went 5-for-5 with two runs scored and two doubles for four RBI against Saint Anselm on March 29.
 
Pearson had a phenomenal defensive season as well for the Owls at first base. Pearson had 365 putouts, without committing a single error this season, while having a fielding percentage of 1.000, and lead the Owls in double plays with eight. Pearson's putouts ranked second most in the NE10, her fielding percentage was tied for the highest in the conference and she was tied for fifth in the NE10 in double plays.

The 2025-26 Academic All-District® Softball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2024-25 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA governance structure.
