SCSU Softball Places Three on NE10 All Conference Teams

NEW HAVEN, CONN- Southern Connecticut Softball standout Sophia Angiolini was named to the Northeast 10 conference first team. Brianna Pearson and Izzy Ingersoll were named to the Northeast 10 Conference Second Team and All-Defense team as announced by the NE10 on Wednesday May 6. This is the second time Ingersoll has made the NE10 second team and the first all-conference team honor for Pearson and Angiolini.

In her sophomore season with the Owls, Angiolini had a great season, while playing multiple positions. Angiolini moved around between the catcher, left field and designated player positions. Angiolini ended the season with 46 hits, nine doubles, a home run and 28 RBI. Also, Angiolini led the Owls in batting average at .359. Defensively, while playing multiple positions, Angiolini had 63 putouts and four assists in 68 chances, with only one error for a fielding percentage of .985. 
 
In her first season with the Owls, after transferring from Adelphi, Pearson had a fantastic season. Pearson had a .331 batting average with 49 hits, 26 runs scored and a home run. Pearson led the team lead in doubles with 11, RBI with 30 and walks with 23, which is good for third in the conference. In addition to her full season stats, Pearson set the Owls record for most hits in a single game when she went 5-for-5 with two runs scored and two doubles for four RBI against Saint Anselm on March 29.
 
Pearson had a phenomenal defensive season as well for the Owls at first base. Pearson had 365 putouts, without committing a single error this season, while having a fielding percentage of 1.000, and lead the Owls in double plays with eight. Pearson's putouts ranked second most in the NE10, her fielding percentage was tied for the highest in the conference and she was tied for fifth in the NE10 in double plays.
 
Izzy Ingersoll followed up her Northeast 10 rookie of the year season last year, with another great campaign. The sophomore shortstop ended the season with a .335 batting average, 30 runs scored, six doubles, three triples, 70 total bases and her first career home run. Ingersoll led the team in at bats with 164, which ranks 5th in the NE10, tied with Pearson with 30 RBI and led the team in hits with 55. This year, Ingersoll had the 100th hit of her collegiate career, in just her second season.
 
Defensively, Ingersoll was excellent. She totaled 111 assists and 40 put outs in 158 chances for a fielding percentage of .956. Ingersoll ranked fourth in the NE10 in assists and she ranked 44th in the nation in assists per game.
