NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut volleyball was defeated by Chestnut Hill College, 3-1, in a non-conference matchup on Monday night in Pelz Gym. The Griffins improved to an overall record of 6-5, while the Owls dropped to an overall record of 2-12.
Raegen Emery led the team with a new career-best of 19 kills, while adding a team-best and career-best of 13 digs, had an ace and four blocks. In addition, this was the fifth double-double for Emery in an Owls uniform.
Victoria Pascual and
Julia Jaworowski recorded five kills for Southern.
For assists,
Madi Roar racked up 20 assists, as
Lily Miller added 11 assists and
Jalie Miller had two.
Sydney Bennett had three blocks and
Sarah Stark had two blocks. For digs,
Victoria Pascual notched 11 and
Jalie Miller had nine of her own.
Lily Miller and Pascual added an ace against the Griffins.
The Owls took the first set over the Griffins, 25-20. However, in the second and third sets, Chestnut Hill came roaring back with a scoreline of 25-18. In the fourth set, Southern and Chestnut Hill went back and forth throughout the set, trading the lead and tying the score up; but it was the Griffins' that pulled away at the end with a win of 25-22.
The Owls return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 7:00 p.m. in Pelz Gymnasium with a non-conference matchup against Mercy University. Southern will face Elm-City rival, the University of New Haven, in their NE10 opener on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 5:00 p.m. in Pelz Gym.
