SCSU Field Hockey Comes Up Short In 2-0 Season-Opening Loss To Mansfield

COLCHESTER, VT. – Southern Connecticut field hockey lost a hard-fought contest to Mansfield, 2-0, at the Best Western Windjammer Fall Classic hosted by Saint Michael's College in Colchester, Vt.

Despite the loss, goalkeeper Rachel Miller stood out as the best player on the field for the Owls. Miller turned back the first eight shots of the game from Mansfield before the Mountaineers managed to score twice in the final eight minutes.

Five of Miller's eight saves came in the first half including a pair in the opening minutes of the game. She then made three saves in the second quarter, including a pair in the closing minutes.

The Owls defense proved frustrating for the Mountaineers who managed just six shots over the last two quarters. Offensively, Southern wasn't able to get anything going all afternoon and managed just four shots on goal.

Southern is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 8 when they face nationally-ranked NFHCA No. 1 Kutztown at 12 p.m. in Colchester, Vt.
