SCSU Men's Soccer Defeats Caldwell, 1-0 for Third Straight Win

NEW HAVEN, CONN.-- Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer defeated Caldwell University 1-0 in a non-conference match-up Tuesday at Jess Dow Field. With the win, The Owls improve to a 3-2-2 overall record, while Caldwell fell to 2-5-1.

After a quiet first half, The Owls woke up in the 68th minute when Jeremy Martin headed to the corner. Martin's kick found Ryad Benmessaoud in the middle of the box. Benmessaoud then fired a shot on goal which was deflected to Jake Novoshelski who put the ball past the goalkeeper in the top right corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead. The goal was Novoshelski's first of the year and Benmessauod's first assist as a Southern Owl.

Coming off a NE10 rookie of the week award, Owls goalkeeper Diego Flores added another four saves including two one-on-one stops. Flores pitched his third straight shut-out helping the Owls to a 1-0 win.

Southern Connecticut is back in action Saturday Oct. 4 when they travel to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. to take on Mercy University. The Owls return home on Tuesday Oct. 7 to take on American International College at 7:00pm at Jess Dow Field.
