SCSU Men's Soccer Tops Molloy, 2-1; Owls Unbeaten in Eight-Straight Games

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Southern Connecticut men's soccer won a back-and-forth battle at Molloy, topping the Lions, 2-1, in Rockville Centre, N.Y. The Owls' win brings their unbeaten streak to eight games (6-0-2) as they improve to 6-2-3 overall.

Jake Novolshelski and Yussif Mohammed both scored for the Owls while Jayson Dumont and Jah Nyanforh both picked up their first points of the year on assists. Diego Flores stopped two of Molloy's three shots on goal to improve to 6-1-3 on the year.

Novoshelski put the Owls on top with his second goal of the season off a pass from Jayson Dumont who picked up his first point of the season. Yussif Mohammed handled the ball from midfield to just above the box where he drew a defender. Mohammed slid a pass to his right to Dumont who found Novoshelski in stride. The Owls' senior beat his defender by a step and flipped a shot past Molloy's keeper to give the Owls a 1-0 lead.

Molloy answered seven minutes later in the 34th minute when leading scorer Danu Kinsella Bishop netted his eighth of the season. The goal ended Diego Flores scoreless streak of 429:06 dating back to the second half of the Owls' draw against Southern New Hampshire on Sept. 19 and denied the freshman keeper of his seventh-straight shutout.

Mohammed made his way onto the box score midway through the second half on a feed from Jah Nyanforh, with both players picking up their first points of the season.
Mohammed became the 10th player to score a goal for the Owls this season while Nyanforh is now the 12th different player to register a point for the Owls.

Southern returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 18 when it hosts Saint Michael's at 4 p.m. at Jess Dow Field.
