SCSU Volleyball Defeats Saint Michael's, 3-0, for Seventh-Straight Win

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut volleyball defeated Saint Michael's, 3-0, in an NE10 matchup on Tuesday, Oct. 14 in Pelz Gym. With the victory, the Owls improved to an overall record of 11-3 and an NE10 record of 2-0 while the Purple Knights dropped to an overall record of 4-13 and an NE10 record of 1-2. 

Kerrigan Habing and Kimi Mitchell both totaled double-doubles in the sweep. Habing had a team-best of 16 kills and 10 digs and Mitchell had a team-best of 28 assists, 10 digs and two blocks. 

Sydney Bennett had eight kills and Ceci Carter had six kills against the Purple Knights. Bennett also had a team-best of three blocks while Sarah Stark and Katie Bardak had two blocks each. Dylan Marney had a team-best of three service aces and Kimi Mitchell had two aces, while Emily Sartell added an ace of her own against Saint Michael's. 

In the first set, it was a close match between the two teams in the beginning but halfway through, the Owls started to pull away with a 18-13 lead with kills from Ceci Carter and Sydney Bennett, with assists from Sarah Henault and Kimi Mitchell. Southern continued with their momentum to finish out the set with a 7-0 run, to end the first with a 25-14 scoreline, in favor of the Owls. 

In the second set, Southern got out to a 7-1 advantage, with five kills from Habing and a kill by Katie Bardak. The Owls pushed to a 23-13 lead as the Purple Knights went on a 7-0 run to get within three points of Southern. Nonetheless, the Owls held on with a kill from Sydney Bennett and an attack error from Saint Michael's, to win the second, 25-20.

In the third set, both the Purple Knights and the Owls went back and forth with the lead until the Owls recorded five points in a row, with kills from Kimi Mitchell and Sydney Bennett. Saint Michael's put some points back on the board; however, the Owls continued with the lead and finished out the third set, 25-18, with a kill from Kerrigan Habing and an assist from Kimi Mitchell, to sweep the Purple Knights, 3-0 and extended their win streak to seven wins in a row. 

The Owls will return to action on Friday, Oct. 17 at 6:00 p.m. in Waltham, Massachusetts for an NE10 matchup against Bentley.
