Kieran Falzon Runs For 204 Yards, 3 TD's As SCSU Football Tops Saint Anselm, 37-13

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut football defeated Saint Anselm, 37-13, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at Jess Dow Field. With the win, the Owls improved to 3-4 overall and 3-1 in the NE10 while the Hawks dropped to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

Saint Anselm came into the game with the NE10's top rushing defense after holding its previous six opponents to 109.3 yards per game. Southern rambled for 301 yards against the Hawks and scored three rushing touchdowns. Southern's 37 points were also the most points scored against the Hawks this season.



Kieran Falzon, coming off NE10 Offensive Player of the Week honors, totaled a career-best 204 yards on 30 carries while scoring three times. For the NE10's leading rusher, it was his second-straight game with 180-of-more yards and his third multiple-touchdown game in his last four outings. He now has five touchdowns in his last two games. Falzon now has 385 yards on 53 carries and five TD's in his last two outings. For the year, Falzon leads the NE10 in rushing yards (781), yards per carry (7.1), yards per game (111.6) touchdowns (10) and points (60).

John Giller also ran for 90 yards and was 10-for-17 for 110 yards with two touchdown passes. For Giller, it was his second-straight 90-yard rushing effort after running for 97 against Pace a week ago. Divine Edwards also had a touchdown catch to go with a team-high 74 yards receiving.

On defense, LaRawn Robinson had seven tackles and two quarterback pressures to lead the Owls while Joe Garbowski had six tackles, two sacks and forced a fumble. Daniel Benzi was also 4-for-5 on point-after attempts and also converted on a 39-yard field goal.

Saint Anselm jumped out to an early 13-7 lead after its first two possessions. Sandwiched between two Hawks' touchdowns was a 57-yard touchdown catch by Edwards on Southern's second play of the afternoon. The Owls defense slammed the lid on Saint Anselm's offense and held them scoreless the final 50:37 of regulation.

Early in the second quarter, Giller capped off a 13-play, 81-yard drive with a toss to Seth Westover for a 1-yard touchdown that gave Southern a 14-13 lead. Falzon scored his first of three touchdowns moments later to cap an 80-yard drive and give Southern a 21-13 lead. Benzi converted on a 39-yard field goal with five seconds left in the first half to send Southern to the break with an 11-point lead, 24-13.
Falzon scored twice in the second half, first on a 53-yard run that started between the tackles. He later scored on a three-yard carry to cap the scoring on the day.

Southern finds itself on the road for the next two games when it travels to Worcester, Mass. to take on Assumption on Nov. 1 and at Franklin Pierce on Nov. 8. Southern closes the regular season with Senior Day on Saturday, Nov. 15 against Post at 1 p.m. at Jess Dow Field.
