SCSU Men's Soccer Blanks Dominican, 2-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut State University's men's soccer team picked up a 2-0 win over Dominican University in the Owls' final non-conference tilt of the regular season at Jess Dow Field. The Owls improved to 8-3-4 on the season while the Chargers fell to 3-8-3.

Ryad Benmessaoud scored the first goal of the game at the 17:03 mark, his second of the season. Jake Novoshelski added another goal at 21:21, assisted by Yussif Mohammed, to give the Owls a 2-0 lead. Novoshelski's goal was his third of the season.

The Owls outshot the Chargers 15-6, with seven shots on target. Diego Flores got the start in goal and logged 61 minutes without seeing a shot on goal. Hector Diez Viota played the remainder of the game in goal, stopping two shots.

Benmessaoud's goal came on a blast from 30 yards out. Mohammed handled the ball along the sideline before finding Benmessaoud just below midfield. Benmessaoud maneuvered through traffic before sending a shot on a line to the right post to give Southern a 1-0 lead.

Novoshelski got on the board with his team-leading third goal of the year. Mohammed picked up an assist on the play when he fed Novoshelski as he streaked through the box towards the goal. Mohammed's pass found Novoshelski's foot before the senior forward finished off the play with a re-direct to the top left corner.

Southern is back in action on Saturday, Nov. 1 when it hosts first-place Bentley at 4 p.m. for a matchup of two of the top teams in the NE10 heading into the final game of the season.
