NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut volleyball defeated Saint Anselm, 3-1, to secure the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Championship, set to begin on Tuesday, Nov. 18. The Owls finished the regular season with an overall mark of 15-7 and a NE10 record of 6-3 while Saint Anselm dropped to 12-11 overall and 4-5 in conference play.
The Owls totaled a season-best of 15 service aces as a team, with four aces from Dylan Marney and Ceci Carter and Sarah Henault had three aces.
Sydney Bennett had a team-high 13 kills as well as four blocks to lead the Owls while Kerrigan Habing had 12 kills and nine digs. Kimi Mitchell had 40 assists to along with seven kills and also had three service aces in the Owls' win. Sarah Stark had six kills and three blocks while Ceci Carter had four kills, three aces and seven digs and Sarah Henault had a team-high 14 digs.
Southern took the first set, 25-18, before the Hawks responded with a 25-21 win in the second set. The Owls then held off a surging Saint Anselm attack in the third set, 25-20, before closing out the match, 25-16, in the fourth set.
Southern will host a Northeast-10 Conference Championship First Round matchup on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 5 p.m. at Pelz Gymnasium. The Owls await the news of their opponent and will host the No. 5 seed, which will be determined following the rest of the NE10 schedule playing out on Saturday, Nov. 15.
