SCSU Football Caps Season With 52-45 Win In OT Against Post, Falzon Scores Four Times

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut football closed the 2025 season with a 52-45 come-from-behind victory against Post, in overtime, at Jess Dow Field. With the win in the season finale, the Owls wrap up first-year head coach Joe Loth's inaugural campaign with a record of 4-3 in the Northeast-10 and 4-6 overall.

Kieran Falzon put an exclamation point on his incredible season with 213 yards on 23 carries for a gawdy 9.3 yards per carry, with three touchdowns, including a 74-yard jaunt and the game-winner in overtime. Falzon added an 18-yard touchdown reception. Seth Westover led the Owls with seven receptions for 164 yards and two touchdowns while Brandon Jorgensen was 16-for-24 for 184 yards with two touchdown passes. John Giller also threw for and ran for a touchdown in the Owls' win.

On defense, Ivory Parker had a team-high 10 tackles while Peter Dempsey and Gabe Copeland totaled seven, each. Hugh Wilkinson had six tackles and two quarterback hurries while LaRawn Robinson had four tackles and also broke-up a pass in the end zone in overtime. Jaylon Tucker had three punt returns for 51 yards and two kick-off returns for 67 yards.

For Falzon, he finished the year with 1,227 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns while also adding 18 catches for 84 yards. Westover completed the year with 40 catches for 679 yards and six touchdowns while Edwards added 553 receiving yards and four touchdown catches.

It was the tale of two halves as Post ran away to a 42-21 lead at halftime. Both teams traded touchdowns in the first quarter, with Falzon scoring on runs of 16 yards and 74 yards as the game stood tied, 14-14, after the first 15 minutes. The second quarter saw Post outscore the home team, 28-7, to take a three-touchdown lead into the break.

The second half was all Owls as Southern's defense held the high-scoring offense to three points in the final 30 minutes and overtime. Coming out of the break, Giller capped a 10-play, 88-yard drive with a 10-yard run to make it 42-28. The Owls then held Post to a field goal after a 10-play drive from midfield that gave the Eagles a 45-28 lead.

With just under 10 minutes to play in regulation, Brandon Jorgensen entered the game on a 2nd and 15 on the Owls' 25 and moved Southern to the 40 after back-to-back receptions to Justin Oliver and an 8-yard pass to Westover. Jorgensen then spied Westover's move to the outside on the next play and connected with the Owls' top receiver for a 60-yard touchdown that made it 45-35.

Daniel Benzi converted on a field goal attempt to make it 45-38 with four minutes to play. The Owls held Post to a three-and-out before a Jaylon Tucker punt return gave the Owls the ball on their own 37 yard line. Jorgensen opened with a nine-yard pass to Westover, before being sacked and losing five yards. He then moved the Owls to Post's 10 yard after completing four-straight passes, including receptions by Westover of 14 yards and 15 yards with a Divine Edwards' 11 yard catch mixed in. Jorgensen then checked down to Falzon who took the pass to the house to tie the game at 45-45.

With the ball on Post's 25-yard line, it was Falzon who rolled off the pile and sprinted to the pylon for his fourth touchdown of the day as well as the Owls' first lead. Southern's defense stood up on Post's final possession with Robinson breaking up a pass in the end zone before TJ Butler ended the game with his team-leading second break-up as the Owls sealed the win.
