SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Southern Connecticut gymnastics team finished second in a tri-meet at Springfield. Rhode Island College won the meet with a score of 192.725, followed by the Owls with a score of 190.600, and then Springfield at 187.100.
Libby Allen had a day for herself, finishing within the top seven in three events including two second place finishes and a season best performance. The Owls had the highest team score on the vault (48.350) and had four gymnasts within the top three in that event – Allen, Ava Kelly, Lexi Bracher, and Brianna Dorr. They also had second place finishes from Alexa Melanson and Angelina Stanfa on the beam.
BALANCE BEAM
Melanson and Stanfa tied for second place on the beam with a mark of 9.775 which is also their season bests. This score is also Stanfa's career best. Allen and Angel Lee both scored a 9.675 to tie for seventh place.
FLOOR EXERCISE
Allen came in second with a 9.800 on the floor to match her season best. Kelly scored a 9.700 for fifth and Abby Royer finished tenth with a score of 9.650.
VAULT
The Owls excelled on the vault with four gymnasts in the top three. Kelly scored a 9.750 to win the event which was also her career and personal best. Allen scored a 9.700 for second place. Bracher and Dorr both scored a 9.675 to tie for third.
UNEVEN BARS
Gabriela Dinisoe was the top performer for the Owls on the bars with a 9.375 to tie for fourth place. Zoe Axell tied for seventh with a 9.250 and Shreya Munshi finished ninth with a 9.225.
The Owls will travel to Providence, RI next Sunday, Mar. 2 to face Brown and Rhode Island College for another time this season.
