SCSU Men's Indoor Track & Field Brings Home Three NE10 Postseason Awards

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut Men's Indoor Track & Field received three of the five Northeast-10 postseason awards for the 2025 season, as announced by the conference on March 11th. Cameron Belton was named the Field Athlete of the Year, Mateo Viviano was named the Field Rookie of the Year, and Head Coach John Wallin was named the Coach of the Year. 

Cameron Belton continues his decorated career, winning his third NE10 Field Athlete of the Year (2022, 2024, 2025) after qualifying for the National Championships for the fourth straight year just last week. This season, recorded the sixth-best Shot Put throw in all of Division II, throwing 18.24m (59' 10.25") at the Art Kadish Elm City Challenge. He placed first in every Shot Put competition he participated in this year, including the Northeast-10 Indoor Track & Field Championships, where he won his fourth straight gold in the event. This season, he was named the NE10's Field Athlete of the Week twice and landed on the NE10's Faces in the Crowd. Last season, he placed 14th at the 2024 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships. 

Mateo Viviano was dominant in his rookie year on the Owls. Mateo Viviano he recorded five top-five finishes in the Pole Vault, including winning the event at the NE10 Indoor Championships. He matched or surpassed 4.40m seven times this season. Only one other athlete in the conference exceeded 4.20m. He was named NE10 Rookie of the Week once this season. 

John Wallin earned his 11th NE10 Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year honor after the Owls captured their 17th indoor NE10 title. Wallin has also been honored 11 times during the Outdoor season where the Owls have won 18 NE10 Championships. He won third straight NE10 Cross Country Coach of the Year earlier this year after SCSU's Men's Cross Country Team won their third-straight title. 

Belton, as well as teammate Natanael Barbosa Torres, will compete next at the 2025 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, held March 13-15 in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion. The University of Indianapolis and Indiana Sports Corp will serve as co-hosts of the championships. The championships will be streamed live on www.NCAA.com.
