SCSU Baseball Falls To Post

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University baseball lost to Post, 6-1 and 8-5, in a non-conference doubleheader at The Ballpark at SCSU. With the two losses, Southern dropped to 13-8 on the season.

GAME 1
Spencer Fox took the no-decision after a solid start on the mound. Fox held Post to one run on five hits over five innings with six strikeouts. He left the game after the 5th inning with the game tied at 1-1.
Brenna Staubley was 2-for-3 with a double as well as a RBI single in the 2nd inning that tied the game at 1-1. Post put together a two-run 6th and a three-run 7th in the 6-1 win.

GAME 2
The second game saw a back-and-forth battle that ended with Southern coming up short in the bottom of the 7th. The Owls answered a Post run with a two-run bottom of the 1st. Patrick Dillon singled with one out and then went to second on a wild pitch. Jake Gruttadauria then lined a double down the left field line that scored Dillon to tie the game. Jack Drewry then followed with a bae hit to score Gruttadauria to give Southern a 2-1 lead.

Owls freshman Jace Alvino dueled with Post's starter through the 5th inning. In the top of the 6th, Post broke through with a pair of runs to take a 3-2 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, Izaiah Walker drew a walk and then scored on a bunt by Brennan Staubley that was misplayed by the pitcher and thrown away.

Post put the game out of reach with a five-run top of the 7th to take an 8-3 lead. In the bottom half of the inning, Dillon led off with a single before Gruttadauria struck out. After Drewry drew a walk, Auggie Albert singled to right field to load the bases. Walker was then hit by a pitch to score Dillon before Staubly hit a deep fly to center that scored Drewry, but the Owls' rally fell short.

Southern and Post will meet again on Sunday, March 30 at 12 p.m. at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury, Conn.
