SCSU Baseball Tops Mercy, 3-1

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Southern Connecticut State University baseball defeated Mercy, 3-1, in a non-conference matchup in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. With the win, the Owls improved to 5-3 overall while Mercy dropped to 7-5 on the season.

Chad Fedeli spun five shutout innings to pick up the win and improve to 2-0 on the season after scattering five hits and striking out four. Collin Blake pitched the final four innings and picked up the save after he went 3 1/3 without giving up a run before Mercy pushed its lone run across in the bottom of the 9^th. Jack Drewry was 2-for-4 with two RBI while Brennan Staubley also drove in a run for the Owls.

Southern pushed two runs across in its first at-bat when Spencer Chard lead off with a single and then went to second on Jake Gruttadauria one-out single. Drewry then doubled down the left field line to score both runners. Meanwhile, Fedeli was cruising through the lineup as he faced just 19 batters in five innings.

Southern added another run in the top of the 7^th when Devin Pelletier lead off the inning with a double to right center. Staubley then drove him in with a single to give Southern a 3-0 lead. Blake retired the first nine batters he faced after entering the game in the 6^th inning and cruised to the bottom of the 9^th, where Mercy was able to manufacture a run after picking up a hit.

Southern is back in action when it heads to Myrtle Beach, S.C. to take on Bridgeport in a four-game series on March 8-9.
