NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's basketball has received an At-Large Bid as the number five seed in the East Region in the 2025 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship Tournament, as announced by the NCAA on Sunday, March 9, 2025. Southern Connecticut will play number four seed and NE10 opponent, Saint Anselm on Friday, March 14 at host, Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts.
The Owls finished the season with an overall record of 19-10 and an In-Region record of 19-10. Southern had a impressive home record with 13 wins and only three losses. The Owls claimed the fifth seed in the NCAA Tournament after getting to the NE10 Championship semifinals. Southern Connecticut defeated Pace University in the NE10 Quarterfinals before falling to Bentley in the NE10 Tournament Semifinals. This is the Owls' first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2018 and the eighth appearance in program history.
Southern advanced to the NCAA Final Four in 1983, then returned to the NCAA Tournament 20 years later, in 2003. They continued to make appearances in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2012 and 2018. The Owls made it all the way to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen in 2006 and then won the NCAA National Championship in 2007.
Bentley took the top seed while Daemen claimed the second seed, Holy Family claimed the three seed, while New Haven, Assumption and Jefferson filled the rest of the East Region bracket.
