Abby Royer Breaks Floor Record As SCSU Gymnastics Wins Quad Meet

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut gymnastics posted a team score of 191.375 to defeat Springfield, Utica and Rhode Island College in the Owls' Quad Meet at James Moore Field House. Owls' senior Abby Royer headlined the event with a program-record 9.950 in the Floor Exercise.

Royer's 9.950 beats the previous record of 9.90, which was hit on four different occasions all-time, most recently in 2024 by Libby Allen at the All-American Challenge. As a team, the Owls posted event-winning scores in the Vault (48.3500), Bars (47.0250) and the Floor (48.650) while it's 47.350 on the Beam trailed Springfield's 47.400.



In addition to Royer's individual win in the Floor event, Autumn Everett – who joined the team this semester after transferring from Rhode Island College – and Lola Sepulveda each posted a 9.725 on the Vault to tie for first. Haley Fitzgerald won the Beam with a score of 9.800 and Lola Sepulveda won the All-Around competition with a score of 38.4500.

VAULT
After Everett and Sepulveda, Ava Kelly was third with a 9.6750 while Jordan Villani was fifth with a 9.6500. Hannah Fitzgerald also finished eighth with a 9.5750.

UNEVEN PARALLEL BARS
Hannah Fitzgerald and Sepulveda finished tied for second on the Bars with a 9.500 while Zoe Axell was fourth with a 9.450. Gabriela Dinisoe was fifth with a 9.400 and freshman Gianna Schibi was tied for seventh with a 9.1750.

BALANCE BEAM
Haley Fitzgerald captured the Beam event with a 9.800, which was the top score for the Owls this season through their first two meets and a career-best for Fitzgerald. Mia Damiano was tied for third with a 9.6250 while Dinisoe and Sepulveda tied for seventh with a 9.500, each.

FLOOR
The Owls last competitor of the event, Royer put together a brilliant performance in the Floor Exercise, garnering scores of 10.000 and 9.950 on the cards. Axell was third with a 9.775 followed by Sepulveda in fourth at 9.7250. Angelina Stanfa finished 12th with a 9.6250 followed by Jordan Villani at 9.5750.

Southern is back in action on Sunday, Jan. 25 when it travels to Williamsburg, Va. to take on William & Mary and Fisk. The Owls then travel to Brown on Feb.  1 and Yale on Feb. 7 before returning home to host Bridgeport for Senior Day on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 1 p.m.
