Abby Royer Named GEC Specialist Of The Week

Coming off a record-breaking performance at this past weekend's quad meet, Southern Connecticut senior Abby Royer was named the Gymnastics East Conference Specialist of the Week, as announced by the GEC on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026. 

Competing for the first time this season, Abby Royer took to the Floor Exercise as the last competitor of the Owls' Quad Meet against Springfield, Utica and Rhode Island College - and left a lasting impression. The senior specialist posted a SCSU record-breaking performance with a 9.950, which was a personal-best and tied for the highest score in the event this season across all NCAA divisions. Her previous best was a 9.825 against Maryland on Feb. 17, 2023. 

Royer was a two-time GEC Newcomer of the Week in 2023 on her way to earning 2023 All-GEC Floor Second Team honors that season. She is also a three-time GEC Scholar-Athlete. 

Royer and Southern will head to Williamsburg, Va. to compete in a tri-meet at William & Mary, featuring Fisk, on Sunday, Jan. 25. Live video and stats will be available on Virtius.
