SCSU Men's Soccer Ties St. Michael's, 1-1, To Run Unbeaten Streak To Five Games

COLCHESTER, Vt. — Southern Connecticut State extended its unbeaten streak to five games after battling to a 1-1 draw with Saint Michael's College at Duffy Field to move to 2-2-5 overall and 1-0-3 in Northeast-10 Conference play.

The Owls are now 2-0-3 over their last five matches, earning a point on the road despite playing the final 24 minutes down a man. Roger Fontdegloria scored his first career goal for Southern Connecticut to equalize in the 30th minute after SCSU fell behind early.

Saint Michael's opened the scoring at 12:34 of the first half when Sean Hendrie netted his fourth goal of the season to put the Purple Knights ahead 1-0.

Southern Connecticut responded at the 30:22 mark. After a shot by Jayson Dumont, Fontdegloria finished to tie the game 1-1. It was the midfielder's first goal in an SCSU uniform, coming on one of his two shots in a full 90-minute performance.

The Owls controlled the first half with a 6-1 shot advantage but had to withstand heavy pressure after halftime. Saint Michael's flipped the momentum with a 12-6 edge in shots in the second half.
The match turned in the 66th minute when SCSU midfielder Jah Nyanforh was sent off. Nyanforh, who was shown a yellow card in the 14th minute, received a second caution at 66:04 and was issued a red card, forcing Southern Connecticut to play with 10 men for the final 23:56.

Despite the disadvantage, goalkeeper Diego Flores and the SCSU defense held firm to preserve the unbeaten run. Flores finished with three saves on four shots on goal, including stops on Marshall Butler at 51:01 and Miles Shea at 66:19 and 75:54 to keep the game level.

For Southern Connecticut, Gisli Agustsson paced the Owls with four shots, including one on goal, in 90 minutes. Southern Connecticut finished with 12 shots and two on goal, while Saint Michael's had 13 shots and four on goal. The Owls put consistent pressure on late, with looks from Agustsson, Kasper Murzinski and Alessandro Bacabac in the final 20 minutes despite being shorthanded.

Southern returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 3 when it hosts Adelphi at 7 p.m. at Jess Dow Field.
