SCSU Gymnastics Defeats Brown With Season-Best 193.000

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Southern Connecticut gymnastics posted a season-best score of 193.000 to edge Brown by 0.125 points as the Owls picked up the dual meet win in Providence, R.I. The Owls win came down to the final student-athlete to compete as Gabriela Dinisoe posted a 9.750 on the Balance Beam to clinch the win for the Owls.

For the second-straight meet, Abby Royer posted a 9.950 in the Floor event, matching the program record she set in the Owls' home meet on Jan. 17. To date, it is the highest score in the event among all NCAA Division II student-athletes and is one of 18 scores of 9.950 or higher this season across all divisions. Royer is the only student-athlete to post the score twice this season. Jordan Villani won the Vault event with a season-best 9.725 and also scored in the Bars and Floor events. Lola Sepulveda was the only All-Around gymnast in the meet and finished with a 38.175.

VAULT
Jordan Villani tied for first place with two Brown competitors on the Vault with a season-best 9.725 while Lola Sepulveda's 9.700 was good for the second-highest score of the event and fourth place. Hannah Fitzgerald and Ava Kelly posted a 9.675 to tie for fifth while Libby Allen also scored with a 9.625. As a team, Southern edged Brown, 48.400 to 48.000.

UNEVEN PARALLEL BARS
First-year Owl Gianna Schibi tied for second place with a 9.650 while Villani tied for fourth with a 9.625. Sepulveda was seventh with a 9.575 followed by Zoe Axell with a season-best 9.600. The Owls also won the team matchup, 47.975 to 47.375.

FLOOR
In addition to Royer's record-tying 9.950 that won the event for the second-straight meet, Sepulveda also posted a season-best score of 9.825, which was good for fifth place. Axell (9.750), Villani (9.725) and Angelina Stanfa (9.700) rounded out the scoring in the event, while Villani's 9.725 was her top score of the season. Brown, however, won the event, 49.075 to SCSU's 48.950.  

BALANCE BEAM
Competing in the sixth spot as the Owls' final athlete of the meet, 2025 All-American Gabriela Dinisoe posted a team-high 9.750 for second place. Maria Chronopoulos posted a career-best score of 9.700 to tie for fourth place on the Beam. Two-time All-American Libby Allen made her season debut on the Balance Beam and posted a team-best 9.600 to tie for seventh place. Stanfa was close behind at 9.550.

Southern is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 7 when it travels down the road to face Yale in a dual meet at Payne Whitney Gymnasium at 1 p.m. The Owls then return home to host Bridgeport for Senior Day on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 1 p.m.
