SCSU Gymnastics Falls To Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut gymnastics lost to Yale, 194.775-192.600, in a dual meet at Payne Whitney Gym in New Haven, Conn. The Owls' 192.600 was their second-highest score of the season while its 48.175 on the Bars was their highest score in the event this year.

Abby Royer posted the highest score of the meet with a 9.875 in the Floor event as she continues to rank among the top gymnasts across all NCAA divisions. Lola Sepulveda had an All-Around score of 37.300.



UNEVEN PARALLEL BARS
Southern put forth a season-best 48.175 on the bars, winning the event against Yale's 47.975. Zoe Axell and Lola Sepulveda tied for fifth with a 9.675, each, which was the season-best for both gymnasts. Gabriela Dinisoe and Hannah Fitzgerald tied for seventh at 9.625, with Dinisoe's standing as a season's best. Jordan Villani was ninth after posting a 9.575 for Southern's final counting score.
 
VAULT
Villani led the Owls in the Vault event with a season-best of 9.750 which was a tie for fourth place. Villani's 9.750 was also Southern's top score in the event this season. Sepulveda and Libby Allen tied for seventh with 9.650 while Ava Kelly posted a 9.625. Hannah Fitzgerald recorded a 9.600. Southern's 48.275 was its second-best Vault score of the season.
 
FLOOR
Abby Royer once again led the Owls in the Floor event with a 9.875, which stood as the top score of the meet. It was Royer's third-straight win in the event over the Owls' last three meets. Angelina Stanfa posted a 9.750 for eighth followed close behind by Axell and Sepulveda with a 9.725 for a tie of ninth. Ava Kelly scored a 9.650.
 
BALANCE BEAM
Stanfa and Mia Damiano tied for fourth with a 9.675 – a season-high for Damiano who was competing out of the anchor spot. Maria Chronopoulos was ninth at 9.625 while Allen posted a 9.525 for 10th place.
 
Southern is back in action on Sunday, Feb. 15 when it hosts Bridgeport for Senior Day at 1 p.m. at James Moore Field House. Following the meet, Southern will honor Libby Allen, Mia Damiano, Ava Kelly, Sara Ortiz, Madison Richman, Ciana Rios, Abby Royer and Lola Sepulveda.
