NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University baseball lost to St. Michael's, 8-5 and 8-0, in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at The Ballpark at SCSU in New Haven, Conn. With the two losses, Southern dropped to 1-7 in the NE10 and 4-13 overall while the Purple Knights improved to 7-10 overall and 5-3 in conference play.

GAME 1 – St. Michael's 8, SCSU 5 (7 Inn.)
Brennan Staubley was 3-for-4 with two RBI while Jake Chacho was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer run and three runs scored. Auggie Albert and Spencer Chard both had two-hit days while Devin Pelletier was 1-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored. Bailey Goss took the loss after giving up seven runs (six earned) on eight hits while striking out seven in five innings. Jaylen Cruz pitched the final two innings and held St. Michael's to a run on two hits.

After the Purple Knights plated a run in the top of the 1st, Pelletier drew a two-out walk in the bottom of the inning. Chacho was then hit by a pitch before Staubley roped a two-run double to the left-center field gap to give Southern a 2-1 lead. St. Michael's responded with two runs in the top of the 2nd.

Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the 3rd, Pelletier led off the inning with a triple to center field before Chacho followed with a two-run dinger to put the Owls on top, 4-3. The Owls loaded the bases on a hit by Staubley, Bam Talavera was hit by a pitch and Albert sliced a ball off the pitcher's leg and legged out an infield hit. Alex Cappellucci when worked a walk to force a run in and give Southern a 5-3 lead. St. Michael's regained the lead with a four-run 5th inning and then added another run in the 6th.

GAME 2 – St. Michael's 8, SCSU 1
Southern Connecticut starter Payton Powell strung together a quality start and held St. Michael's to two runs over the first five innings while striking out six. In the 6th, Powell retired the first batter and gave up a hit before an error allowed both runners into scoring position and ended the starter's day.

From there, Southern committed two more errors and allowed six unearned runs to cross in the inning as the Purple Knights' lead ballooned to 8-0. In the bottom of the 9th, after the lead off batter was retired, Pelletier doubled and went to third on a single by Chacho. Staubley then followed with a RBI single to put the Owls on the board, but a relief pitcher ended Southern's day. Staubley finished the second game 3-for-4 while Ryan Fedeli was 2-for-3 with a triple.
