BEVERLY, Mass. - Southern Connecticut baseball split a double-header with Saint Anselm, winning game one 5-3 and dropping game 2 12-2. The Owls move to 5-16 on the season.

Brennan Staubley stayed hot, going 2-4 in game one with two RBIs and two runs scored. Him and Jake Chaco both homered in the first game, with Matt Scalia also going 2-2 with a walk. Zaid Vohra recorded his first career home run in game two, and Peter Glidden recorded his first career hit. Auggie Albert, Nick Karras, and Bam Talavera all doubled on the day.

GAME 1
Sophomore Jace Alvino got the start in the first game and was great, pitching a seven-inning complete game. He allowed six hits and three runs over the seven innings, striking out three and walking zero batters.

Jake Chacho opened up the scoring in the top of the first with a two-out solo home run to left field. Saint Anselm would battle back in the bottom of the second, scoring three runs off of four hits to take a 3-1 lead.

Southern answered immediately in the top of the third after Brennan Staubley roped a two-run homer to left, driving in Nick Karras, tying the game at three. It would stay that way until the top of the fifth, when two walks and a single would load the bases with no outs. Saint Anselm nearly escaped the jam with back-to-back outs at the place, but Matt Scalia came through with a single up the middle, driving in Staubley and Bam Talavera to give the Owls a 5-3 lead. Alvino would keep the Hawks off the board for the final three frames, giving the Owls a 5-3 victory.

The Owls kicked off the scoring when Jake Chacho drove in Bam Talavera with a sac fly to right. Talavera, who doubled to start the inning, stole third to record his team-leading seventh stolen base of the year.

Saint Anselm answered i nthe bottom half off the inning, scoring four runs off of four hits to take the lead.
