New Haven, Conn. - Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer opened the 2026 season with a 3-1 setback to Monroe University. SCSU opened the year at 0-1 and Monroe University advances to 1-0.
Monroe was the first to score at 38:50. Giancarlo Ciotoli started the second half early with a goal at 47:21 to tie the game for the Owls.
Ciotoli, along with Héctor Díez Viota, Roger Fontdegloria, and Jah Nyanforh earned the most minutes, with Izan Vila, Jimmy Choi, Kasper Murzinski, and Alessandro Bacabac the most aggressive in shot taking and shots at goal.
Monroe followed Ciotoli's goal with two more in the second half, bringing the final score to 3-1.
The Owls face the Purple Knights on Sunday, Aug. 30 at 2:00pm at the University of Bridgeport.
