RINDGE, N.H. (AP) — Southern Connecticut State women's soccer suffered its first loss and allowed its first goal of the season Saturday, falling 1-0 to Franklin Pierce in Northeast-10 play at Sodexo Field.
Camille Berenguer scored just 1 minute, 36 seconds into the match for the Ravens, and Franklin Pierce made it stand up to extend its winning streak to six games. The Ravens improved to 6-2-0 overall and 1-0-0 in NE10 play, while the Owls saw their unbeaten start come to an end.
It was the first goal Southern had allowed in 2026. The Owls entered Saturday with seven shutouts during a 5-0-2 start.
Franklin Pierce's Inka Rajala slipped a ball in behind the Southern back line and Berenguer finished for her fourth goal of the season. Rajala earned her team-leading assist on the play.
From there, Southern's defense, which had not been breached all year, settled in. Makenzi Pastrek kept the deficit at one with five saves, including three on Rajala, who led all players with three shots on goal. Fabry faced eight shots on goal in total as Franklin Pierce outshot Southern 14-2 and held a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The Owls generated their best look in the first half but could not put one past Franklin Pierce goalkeeper Jess LaCroix. LaCroix was credited with the shutout without needing to make a save as Southern was held without a shot in the second half.
Southern finished with two shots total and was held to zero corners, a testament to Franklin Pierce's pressure. The Ravens pressed high and forced Southern into 10 corner-kick opportunities against.
Southern is back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 30 when it travels to take on Molloy in Rockville Centre, N.Y. The Owls return home on Saturday, Oct. 3 to host Southern New Hampshire at 4 p.m.
