NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Jade Black (Hudson, Ohio) of the volleyball team and sophomore Louis Geist (Arvada, Colo.) of the swim team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Black posted a double-double to lead the Owls to a win at Assumption on Tuesday in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. She finished with 10 kills and 16 digs. The next day, Black had 11 kills and 12 digs in a home victory against Post. It was the second straight week that she has earned this honor.
Geist had a fine showing at the Rutgers Sonny Werblin Invite over the weekend. He won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:46.87. Geist also had great finishes in the 100 breaststroke, where he finished second with a time of 1:04.62, and added a third place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.85.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
