NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman Maria Weselyj (Malborough, Conn.) of the women's basketball team and senior Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) of the men's basketball team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Langston played a key role in the 98-74 win against Concordia. Langston led all scorers with 28 points and had six rebounds and three assists.
Wesleyj led the women's basketball team to its first two wins of the season last week, defeating Concordia (95-57) and Felician (85-69). In the win against Felician, Weselyj led all scorers with 19 points. She averaged 15.0 points per game in the Owls' victories.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Week' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
