NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman Shatajah Wattely (Uncasville, Conn.) of the women's outdoor track and field team and senior Logan Sharpe (Esperance, N.Y.) of the men's outdoor track and field team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.

Wattely helped lead the Owls to a runner-up finish at this weekend's Northeast-10 Conference Championship. She ran a leg of the winning 4x100 relay that also set a new NE-10 championship record time of 46.40. That time was also a NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Wattely also finished second in the 200 meters and as a part of the 4x400 relay and placed third in the 100 meters.

Sharpe was named the Most Outstanding Track Performer of the NE-10 Championship as he helped the Owls win their 12th straight outdoor title and 23rd NE-10 title in 24 meets. He was the league champion in both the 400 meters (47.69 seconds) and the 400 hurdles (52.88 seconds). Both of those times were NCAA provisional qualifying marks. Sharpe also ran a leg of the 4x100 relay that finished second and the 4x400 relay that finished third.

The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Week' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
