NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Shatajah Wattely (Uncasville, Conn.) of the women’s outdoor track and field team and senior Tresley Dupont (Tiverton, R.I.) of the men’s outdoor track and field team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.

Wattely played an integral role in the Owls’ runner-up team finish at this past weekend’s Northeast-10 Conference Championship. She captured NE-10 titles in the 100 meters along with the 4x100 and 4x400 relays over the course of the weekend. Wattely was also the runner-up in the 200 meters. Her times of 11.96 in the 100 meters and 24.10 in the 200 meters were both NCAA provisional qualifying marks, as was the 4x400 relay effort.

Dupont collected Northeast-10 Conference Field Athlete of the Meet honors as the Owls’ men’s squad also finished as the runner-up at the NE-10 Championship. He claimed NE-10 titles in both the hammer throw and shot put with a pair of NCAA provisional qualifying marks. Dupont had a heave of 16.59 meters in the shot put and 60.50 meters in the hammer throw.

The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
