NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Danielle MacMurray (Griswold, Conn.) of the women’s soccer team and junior Victor Hernandez (Rye Brook, N.Y.) of the men’s soccer team have been named as the Comcast/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for August.
MacMurray played a key factor in the Owls’ 2-0 start to the season. She capped the month with her first career hat trick, that coming in a 4-0 win over Caldwell on Aug. 29. For her efforts, she was named to the Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll. MacMurray currently leads the Owls in both goals (three) and points (six).
Hernandez, a transfer from Mercer County Community College, has made an immediate impact with the Owls early on. He started the scoring for Southern Connecticut in its first win of the year, that coming over Post on Aug. 30. Hernandez currently leads the Owls in both goals (two) and points (five).
For the second consecutive year, Comcast is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Month’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Month’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each month for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
