NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Shatajah Wattely (Uncasville, Conn.) of the women's outdoor track and field team and junior Hunter Stokes (Madison, Conn.) of the men's outdoor track and field team have been named as the Chick-fil-A of North Haven/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.

Wattely captured the New England title in the 200 meters with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 23.97 seconds at the New England Track and Field Championships over the weekend. She also ran a leg of the 4x400 relay that also won the New England title, chasing down NCAA national champion Carly Muscaro of Merrimack to help the Owls to the win. SCSU finished fourth as a team overall at New Englands thanks in part to Wattely's efforts.

Stokes won the New England title in the javelin with a toss of 63.53 meters, also a NCAA provisional qualifying mark. His mark was also the fourth-best in that event in school history. The Owls were fifth as a team thanks in part to Stokes' efforts.

Chick-fil-A of North Haven, located at 560 Universal Drive, is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Week' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
