NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Graduate student Laura Morrison (Wethersfield, Conn.) of the women’s cross country team and junior David Spears, Jr. (Springfield, Mass.) of the football team have been named as the Chick-fil-A of North Haven/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Morrison made quite an impression in her Owls’ debut, as she finished 10th overall individually to earn All-Conference honors at Sunday’s NE10 Championship event. She finished the race in a time of 22:26 to help the Owls finish 13th as a team.
Spears, Jr. played a pivotal role in the Owls’ 28-9 win over Merrimack on Homecoming. He totaled four tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and had a 32-yard interception that he took back for a touchdown in the triumph.
Chick-fil-A of North Haven, located at 560 Universal Drive, is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
