NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Katherine Crochet (Watertown, Conn.) of the women’s swimming and diving team and junior Tyler Prescott (Meriden, Conn.) of the men’s swimming and diving team have been named as the Chick-fil-A of North Haven/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Each was named the Most Outstanding Swimmer of this weekend’s NE10 Conference Championship after helping their respective squads capture the team titles.
Crochet, who earned Most Outstanding Swimmer honors for the second time as an Owl, claimed six NE10 titles at the meet. She finished first individually in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle, and also swam legs of the winning 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay.
Prescott claimed the top spot in four events over the weekend. He was first in the 200 individual medley, the 400 IM, and the 200 backstroke. His time of 1:47.36 in the backstroke set a new conference record in the event. Prescott also swam a leg of the winning 800 freestyle relay.
Chick-fil-A of North Haven, located at 560 Universal Drive, is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
