NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Kathleen Aberger (Plano, Texas) of the gymnastics team and senior Griffin Bremer (Higganum, Conn.) of the baseball team have been named as the Chick-fil-A of North Haven/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Aberger helped contribute to a record-setting day for the Owls in its quad-meet at Brown on Sunday. She was one of Southern’s top finishers on the bars (9.675 – 10th overall) as the squad set a new team bars record (48.1). Aberger also was the top Owl on the beam (9.625 – seventh overall) as the squad matched a program record in that event (48.1). She also led the way on the floor exercise (9.725 – ninth place) as SCSU registered a new program record for overall team score (192.05).
Bremer’s only outing of the week was a gem for the Owls and helped cap a three-game weekend sweep of Bridgeport. He tossed a complete-game (seven-inning) shutout and fanned six, while issuing just two hits in a 4-0 victory.
Chick-fil-A of North Haven, located at 560 Universal Drive, is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
