NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior quarterback
Steve Armstrong (Nutley, N.J.) completed 20-of-28 passes for 304 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Southern Connecticut State University football team to a 49-0 victory over Pace University on Friday night. The Owls' defense certainly did its part as it merited just 122 yards and didn't allow Pace to tally a first down until midway through the third quarter.
The Owls have now won two in a row and improved to 4-3, 3-2 in Northeast-10 play. Pace is 1-6, 1-5 in league play.
SCSU took the ball to start the game and promptly set the tone for the night. The hosts went 66 yards in just five plays, a drive that was capped by a 25-yard pass from Armstrong to
Ty Marshall (Ellenwood, Ga.).
Charles Gallagher (Hartford, Conn.) followed with the PAT.
The Owls made it 14-0 on their next possession when Armstrong found

Jarom Freeman (Peekskill, N.Y.), pushing the lead to 24-0 after 15 minutes.
The offensive attack continued to churn into the second quarter. Armstrong hit Johnny Lee (Norwalk, Conn.) on a six-yard strike to cap a 16 play, 73-yard drive to make it 31-0.
Gallagher added a 24-yard field goal in the closing seconds of the first half to push the score to 34-0 at the break.
Armstrong and Bergeski connected again, this time on a 21-yard touchdown pass, midway through the third quarter. However, Gallagher's PAT was blocked and the score stayed at 40-0.
Another Gallagher field goal, his third on the game, came from 34 yards out with 1:08 to play in the third.
The only scoring of the fourth quarter came when
John Wiechman (Buxton, Maine) broke free for a 66-yard touchdown run.
Freeman ended with 110 yards on 14 carries, extending the team's streak with a 100-yard rusher to 22 consecutive games.
Brandon Toles (Fort Washington, Md.) made his return after missing two games and finished with 62 yards on 18 carries.
Bergeski ended the night with seven catches for 148 yards, marking his third outing with more than 100 receiving yards this year.
It was also the second game with at least 300 passing yards for Armstrong.
On the defensive end,
Andrew Pratt (West Haven, Conn.) and
Michael Campbell (Newington, Conn.) each had eight tackles.
Desmond Lymon (West Haven, Conn.) had seven tackles and one sack.
