BROOKVILLE, N.Y. -- Wide receivers Johnny Lee (Norwalk, Conn.) and Chris Bergeski (Mountainside, N.J.) were the primary beneficiaries of a 273-yard passing day from quarterback Steve Armstrong (Nutley, N.J.), as the Southern Connecticut State University football team picked up a 42-17 victory over C.W. Post on Saturday afternoon. Thanks to 100-plus yard receiving efforts from Lee (105 yards) and Bergeski (110 yards), the Owls won their third consecutive contest. In all, SCSU totaled 537 yards of total offense, including a 216-yard effort on the ground from Jarom Freeman (Peekskill, N.Y.).

It was the first time that two SCSU receivers had more than 100 yards in the same game since Jim Lukowiak (220) and Jamel Lewis (114) did it in a game against Bryant on Nov. 5, 2005.

In addition, Armstrong's three touchdown passes allowed him to move past Mike Abate and Kevin Dickinson for career touchdown strikes. Armstrong now stands all alone with 54 career touchdown passes.

The Owls improved to 5-3, 4-2 in Northeast-10 play with the win. C.W. Post is now 3-4, 3-3.

SCSU took the opening kickoff and put together another successful opening series. Freeman capped the six play, 70 yard drive with a 10 yard touchdown run.

After a C.W. Post field goal cut the deficit to 7-3, the Owls came back and struck again early in the second quarter. Armstrong hit Lee on an eight-yard strike that closed a 12 play, 88 yard drive.

C.W. Post struck next to get within 14-10, but the Owls came through once again. This time, Armstrong closed a 16 play, 66 yard drive with a one-yard plunge with just 25 seconds left in the first half.

The Owls then scored only 2:53 into the second half when Armstrong found Tom Cerny (Mahwah, N.J.) on a 41-yard touchdown pass.

C.W. Post scored next to close the gap to 28-17, but the Owls put the game away with the next two scores.

Lee's second touchdown reception of the game came from 26 yards out with 4:42 left in the third quarter. Freeman then scored only nine seconds into the fourth quarter on a 40-yard run.

Freeman finished with 216 yards on 33 carries and two touchdowns. Armstrong was 18-of-24 for 273 yards.

SCSU is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 27 for a 1 p.m. home contest against Stonehill. It will be Homecoming at Jess Dow Field.
