Box Score

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Seven different players scored touchdowns as the Southern Connecticut State University football team rolled past Saint Anselm in its regular season finale on Saturday, 71-14. Thanks to the SCSU win and Bentley's loss on Saturday, the Owls finish the season as Northeast-10 Conference tri-champions. It's the second time in the last four years that the Owls have earned at least a share of the league title. Southern Connecticut finishes the year with a 6-4 mark, its ninth straight winning season and 16th straight year with a record at or above .500. In the process, the Owls also set a new program single-game mark with 691 yards of total offense, eclipsing the old mark of 642 set back in 1996 in a game against Mansfield.

The Owls wasted little time in jumping on the Hawks early on. SCSU took the opening kickoff and needed only two plays and 50 seconds before Chris Roberts (New Britain, Conn.) found Andre Privott (Middletown, Conn.) on a 52-yard scoring strike that gave the visitors a 6-0 lead.

John Wiechman (Buxton, Maine) padded the lead to 13-0 on the next Owls' possession with a 17-yard touchdown run. Christopher Hazelton (Bristol, Conn.) added the PAT to make it 13-0.

After a St. Anselm score, Roberts connected with Willie Epps (Norwalk, Conn.) on a 52-yard touchdown pass that extended the lead to 20-7 following a PAT.

The Owls added one more touchdown in the opening quarter when Roberts hit Privott for a 61-yard reception that made it 26-7 after the first 15 minutes.

SCSU needed only six seconds of the second quarter to extend its lead to 33-7. Rashaad Slowley (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) finished a five play, 47-yard drive with a six-yard run. It was the first of three touchdowns on the day for Slowley.

Hazelton connected on a 21-yard field goal midway through the second quarter to make it 36-7. Slowley capped the first half scoring with one-yard run that concluded a five play, 79-yard drive. SCSU led 43-7 at the break.

The Owls scored 21 points in the third quarter. Roberts' fourth touchdown pass of the day went to Timothy Wells (Abington, Mass.) from two yards out.

Senior linebacker Andrew Pratt (West Haven, Conn.) got the defense involved in the scoring less than a minute after Wells' score when he intercepted a St. Anselm pass and returned it 41 yards for a touchdown.

Slowley followed with an 80-yard run later in the third quarter to cap his activity for the day.

St. Anselm scored the final touchdown of the third quarter to cut the lead to 64-14. However, the Owls had one more answer when Patrick Collins (Manchester, Conn.) scored from seven yards out midway through the fourth quarter. Charles Gallagher (Hartford, Conn.) added the PAT to close the scoring.

Slowley and Wiechman both broke the 100-yard total, marking the third time this year that the Owls accompluished that feat. Slowley had a career-high 221 yards on 17 carries. Wiechman finished with 121 yards on 21 carries.

Roberts finished 11-of-14 for 244 yards and four touchdowns. Privott tallied three receptions for 126 yards and two scores, while Epps had four receptions for 86 yards.
