LANTANA, Fla. – The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team split its doubleheader on Friday afternoon, defeating Felician but falling to Adelphi. The Owls defeated Felician for their third straight win by the score of 4-2 but lost to Adelphi in the second game of the doubleheader, 10-2. Southern is now 3-4 overall.
In the first game of the doubleheader, freshman
Chris Zbin (Colchester, Conn.) pitched a gem, going a complete game in his first start as an Owl. He gave up two runs on six hits with ten strikeouts.
Leading the Owls offensively were senior
Karl Derbacher (Northford, Conn.) and freshman
Sam Greenberg (Guilford, Conn.). Derbacher went 1-for-4 with an RBI while Greenberg went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
The second game was a different story as Adelphi pulled away in the late innings to win by the score of 10-2. Despite the loss, freshman
Ryan Yerina (Trumbull, Conn.) pitched a great game as he went eight innings, allowing five runs and striking out six batters.
Senior
Kevin Bowerman (West Haven, Conn.) went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk and freshman
Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.) hit a double and scored a run. Derbacher and freshman
Jordan Hockenberry (Glastonbury, Conn.) each registered an RBI.
The Owls return to the field tomorrow for another doubleheader against Northeast-10 opponent Saint Rose at 9:15 a.m. and Caldwell at 1 p.m.
