Box Score

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team honored its five senior class members at The Ballpark at SCSU on Thursday, but the Bentley Falcons celebrated a 5-1 win over the Owls. Southern is now 22-19 overall and 17-10 in the conference. Bentley improved to 25-21 and 16-11 in the NE-10.

The Falcons got on the board first when a two-out single led to a home run by James Roche, as they took an early 2-0 lead.

Southern would cut the deficit to one in the bottom of the fourth. Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.) led off with a single to center field. He would advance to second on a ground out and with one out remaining in the inning, Eric Schlitter (Guilford, Conn.) connected for an RBI double.

In the top of the third, Bentley padded their lead to add three more runs on just two hits.

Kyle Penney (Columbia, Conn.) entered the seventh and did not allow a hit in two scoreless of relief. However, the damage was done as the Owls fell short by the score of 5-1.

Leading the team offensively was Schlitter and Nick DeProspo (Worcester, Mass.). Both sluggers went 2-for-4, accounting for half of the team's hits. Geffert and Karl Derbacher (Northford, Conn.) both singled to keep their hitting streaks intact. Geffert has now hit safely in his last eight contests and Derbacher is riding a six-game hit streak.

The Owls return to action on Saturday when they travel to Southern New Hampshire for a doubleheader at 12 p.m.
