SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Andre Privott (Middletown, Conn.) led the Southern Connecticut State University football team with 66 yards and a touchdown to help hand AIC their first loss of the season, defeating the Yellow Jackets by the score of 17-9. Saturday's win marks the team's second straight victory as they improve to 2-2 on the season and 2-0 in the NE-10. AIC is now 3-1 and 1-1 in the conference.

The Yellow Jackets got on the board first, recording a safety within the first minute and a half of play, taking an early 2-0 lead.

The Owls would retaliate late in the quarter on a one yard rush from senior quarterback Chris Roberts (New Britain, Conn.) to record the first touchdown of the game and give the Owls a 7-2 edge.

In the second quarter, Roberts and Privott gambled on first down, throwing deep and connecting on a 41-yard score. After a successful extra point attempt, the Owls led 14-2 with 13:20 left in the half.

The Yellow Jackets answered with a touchdown of their own to cut the deficit to five. However, the Owls capitalized on a fumble recovery from junior Daniel Allen (Bridgeport, Conn.) at the AIC 11 yard line, leading to a 20-yard field goal as Southern would head into halftime up 17-9.

The second half featured a defensive stand-off, finalizing a 17-9 victory for the Owls.

Roberts finished 9-for-16 with 119 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Junior John Wiechman (Buxton, Maine) led the backfield with 72 yards on 11 carries, averaging 6.3 yards per carry.

Defensively, seniors Mike Campbell (Newington, Conn.) and Jerome Pinckney (Ellenwood, Ga.) led the team with 11 and 10 tackles respectively. Junior Landon Osborn (New Haven, Conn.) registered two sacks for a loss of 16 yards and forced a fumble as well.
