Baseball Takes Two From Cross-Town Rival New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Bryan Dorsey (Cheshire, Conn.) sent #A.J. Rouleau# (Westborough, Mass.) to home with a line drive to right field in the bottom of the 11th to give the Southern Connecticut State University baseball team a 7-6 victory over cross-town rival New Haven. The Owls followed that up with a nine-run, 13-hit performance in game two to complete the sweep over the Chargers by the score of 9-1. Southern is now 23-7-1 overall and 14-3 in the Northeast-10 Conference. New Haven is 21-9 and 9-6 in league play.

The Chargers got on the board first in game one by scoring two runs in the top of the first, however their lead was short lived as Southern retaliated with a four-run bottom half of the inning.

After three consecutive walks, Dorsey drove in Nick DeProspo (Worcester, Mass.) with a single to left field to give the Owls their first run. Jordan Hockenberry (Glastonbury, Conn.) then stepped to the plate and hit a triple to bring in all runners as Southern took a 4-2 lead after the first.

The Owls added a run in both the fourth and fifth but a three run seventh and another run by the Chargers in the eighth, tied the game at 6-6.

It took extra innings but in the bottom of the 11th, Rouleau singled to center field with two outs. Dorsey then stepped to the plate and drove in the game-winning run with a double to right field as the Owls claimed a 7-6 victory.

Dorsey went 3-for-6 in the game with two RBI and a run scored. Hockenberry was 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored and DeProspo and Rouleau connected for two hits each. Kyle Penney (Columbia, Conn.) recorded the win as he threw four and two-third innings, surrendering just four hits and one unearned run.

In Sunday's second contest, Kyle Rosadino (Berwyn, Pa.) led off the first with a single to center field. DeProspo then reached on a bunt and Rosadino would later advance to third on a passed ball to lead up to a sacrifice fly from Geffert. Back-to-back singles by Rouleau and Dorsey led to another score as Dorsey drove in DeProspo for the second run of the inning.

Southern would score again in the second on a wild pitch and once more in the fourth on a RBI single by Rosadino before the Chargers scored their first run in the top of the fifth.

In the bottom of the sixth with two runners on, Cleary hit a RBI single to center field driving in Hockenberry. DeProspo would later walk with the bases loaded as the Owls pulled ahead 6-1 before eventually grabbing a 9-1 win.

Rosadino led the squad offensively as he went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a RBI and a walk. Rouleau also connected for three hits and DeProspo and Geffert both recorded two RBI. Sean Leahy (Maybrook, N.Y.) allowed just one hit and one run in four and a third innings. Penney recorded the win for his third this week. He went one and two-third innings without allowing a run and gave up just three hits.

The Owls are set for another Northeast-10 home game on Monday against Post at 3:30 p.m.
