Box Score

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – For the second time this season, Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.) hit three home runs in a game as the No. 23 ranked Southern Connecticut State University baseball team defeated non-conference opponent Concordia, 12-7. Geffert was 4-for-5 from the plate with seven RBI, three runs scored and walked once to continue an impressive sophomore season in which he has already surpassed his total home run mark from last year. Eric Schlitter (Guilford, Conn.) also connected for a home run as he went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored.

With the win, the Owls improve to 28-8-1 overall while Concordia dropped to 22-19.

Southern pulled away early and often in Monday's game by scoring at least one run in each of the first five innings to take a 10-2 lead heading into the sixth.

The Owls tallied three runs in the bottom of the first. Bryan Dorsey (Cheshire, Conn.) walked to get on base and was followed by a Geffert home run over the left center field wall. Michael Cleary (West Boylston, Mass.) added another run in the inning with a single through the left side to bring in Jordan Hockenberry (Glastonbury, Conn.).

Geffert drove in three more runs in the bottom of the fifth with a homer to left field and two runs in the ninth opened the game even more. However, Concordia attempted a comeback and cut the margin by three but the deficit was too large to overcome as Southern won, 12-7.

Kyle Rosadino (Berwyn, Pa.) and Cleary added two more hits for Southern and Hockenberry connected for a single as the Owls totaled 11 hits on the day. Ed Bethke (Branford, Conn.) recorded the win in five and a third innings. He allowed four runs on eight hits and struck out two.

The Owls return to action tomorrow, April 20 as they head to Adelphi for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
