Box Score 2 NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut baseball dropped a Northeast 10 Conference doubleheader against Adelphi, 6-4, and 12-2, at the Ballpark on Sunday afternoon. With the losses, the Owls dropped to 9-22 overall abd 5-15 in the NE10 while the Panthers improved to 18-13 overall and 14-8 in the NE10.
For the day,
Nick Karras led the Owls with hits as he recorded four hits, a home run and four RBI against the Panthers. Jake Chaco added an RBI and a hit, in the first game against Adelphi.Â
GAME ONE:
In the first inning, the Owls got on the board first, with a triple to left center from
Jake Chacho, which sent
Bam Talavera home, for the first run of the day. Then, Adelphi got on the board off of a wild pitch, to tie the game at 1-1. In the second,
Spencer Chard scored on a wild pitch, to take the lead back for the Owls.
However, the Panthers offense created momentum in the the third and took a 3-2 lead. In the fourth and the sixth innings, Adelphi continued to score runs, as they extended their lead to 6-2. In the seventh,
Nick Karras launched a home run into right field, which sent
Ryan Fedeli and himself across home plate, to get within two of the Panthers. Nonetheless, the Panthers held on to take a 6-4 victory in game one.
GAME TWO:
In the second inning, Adelphi got on the board first, with four runs scored. The offensive pressure from the Panthers continued to grow as in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, they recorded seven more runs. In the seventh inning, the Owls scored their first run of the day as Karras singled to center field, as it brought
Connor Powell and
Matt Scalia home. Adelphi added one more run in the eighth inning before they clinched the 12-2 victory, in game two.Â
The Owls will return to action on Wednesday, April 15 at 3:30 pm in an NE10 matchup against American International in Springfield, Massachusetts.Â
