GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The No. 18 ranked Southern Connecticut State University baseball team continues to roll past opponents as they defeated Adelphi on Tuesday by the score of 5-1. For the second consecutive game,
Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.) hit a home run and now has 12 on the season.
Chris Zbin (Colchester, Conn.) recorded the win for the Owls, throwing a complete game and allowing just one run while striking out nine. He allowed just five hits as he improved his record to 6-1.
Southern is now 29-8-1 overall and 17-4 in league play while Adelphi dropped to 26-11, 12-7.
Adelphi scored their first and only run in the bottom of the first on a wild pitch. They held a 1-0 lead until Southern opened the game with a three-run third inning.
Kyle Rosadino (Berwyn, Pa.) walked and
Bryan Dorsey (Cheshire, Conn.) reached on an error to put two runners on base for Geffert. With two outs in the inning, the sophomore slugger hit a three-run homer to put the Owls ahead by two.
In the top of the sixth,
Michael Cleary (West Boylston, Mass.) singled to right field and later scored on a sacrifice bunt from
Nick DeProspo (Worcester, Mass.). They would add another run in the eighth on a double to left field by Cleary, driving in
Jordan Hockenberry (Glastonbury, Conn.) for the Owls fifth run of the game as they won, 5-1.
Cleary went 2-for-3 from the plate with a RBI and run scored and #A.J. Rouleau# (Westborough, Mass.) went 2-for-4. Dorsey, Geffert and Hockenberry added a hit each to give Southern a total of seven hits in the game.
The Owls will host Adelphi for their next contest on Thursday, April 22.
