WORCESTER, Mass. – The Southern Connecticut State University baseball team was defeated by Assumption on Thursday night, two days after the Owls overcame a 2-0 deficit heading into the ninth to claim a 3-2 lead over the Greyhounds. However Thursday's contest was the same story but different result as Assumption claimed a 3-2 victory over the Owls.
Southern is now 19-7-1 overall and 11-3 in the Northeast-10 Conference. Assumption is 16-10 with the win and 6-4 in league play.
Southern was held scoreless until the top of the seventh when
Eric Schlitter (Guilford, Conn.) reached on a walk and later advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Jordan Hockenberry (Glastonbury, Conn.).
Michael Cleary (West Boylston, Mass.) also walked in the inning which led to back-to-back RBI singles by
Kyle Rosadino (Berwyn, Pa.) and
Bryan Dorsey (Cheshire, Conn.).
However, in the bottom of the ninth, Pete Creamer drove in the game-winning run with a line drive to the right centerfield gap to give Assumption the win.
Dorsey led the Owls with two hits and a RBI and
Ryan Geffert (Plymouth, Pa.) recorded a double in the game.
Chris Zbin (Colchester, Conn.) started and threw six and two-third innings, allowing two unearned runs on five hits and struck out nine batters.
Southern returns to action on Saturday for a doubleheader at Bentley beginning at 12 p.m.
