Sam-uel Johnson was one of five Owls who were named All-ECAC.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Five members of the Southern Connecticut State University football team –
William Chaffin (Amston, Conn.), Willie Epps (Norwalk, Conn.), Sam-uel Johnson (Newark, N.J.), Richard Kirkland (Paterson, N.J.) and John Wiechman (Buxton, Maine) – have been recognized with year-end honors from the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference as Division II Football All-Stars.

The quintet was also previously honored as All-Northeast-10 Conference selections for their play during the 2010 season.

Chaffin emerged as a presence on the offensive line and also served as the team's long snapper. He helped the Owls rank second in the league in points per game and total offense on the season. Chaffin also recovered a fumble for a touchdown in the win over Assumption earlier in the year.

Epps enjoyed a breakout sophomore season in which he led the Northeast-10 in yards/catch (26.9) and was second in receiving yards (970). He also finished second in the league in touchdown receptions (nine) and third in yards/game (97.0). Epps led the Owls in all four of those categories this year.

Johnson developed into one of the anchors of the defensive unit this year. His 76 tackles were tops on the club and ninth in the NE-10. Johnson's three fumble recoveries were also a team-high, while his two interceptions ranked second on the team.

The veteran of the Owls' secondary, Kirkland led the team with three interceptions and also recorded 31 tackles on the season. Kirkland's eight passes defended were also a team-high.

Wiechman ranked fifth in the league with 778 rushing yards and added six touchdowns on the ground. In all, he tallied eight touchdowns (two receiving) and also totaled 14 catches for 121 yards.

The Southern Connecticut State University football team concluded the 2010 season with a 6-4 overall mark and posted its 10th consecutive winning season.
