CLOSING OUT THE CALENDAR YEAR
The final game of the 2011 calendar year takes place on Dec. 30 for the Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team as it hosts Bridgeport in a non-conference contest. It's the second meeting of the year between the two clubs. Bridgeport defeated SCSU back on Nov. 13, 80-69. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Moore Field House.
DOMINIQUE DOMINATES AGAINST CONCORDIA
Sophomore
Dominique Langston had one of his best games as a collegian last time out against Concordia. He finished with a career-high 24 points to go along with nine rebounds and a team-high five assists.
SMITH HEATING UP IN DECEMBER
Freshman guard
Tylon Smith is averaging 14 points per game over the last two outings. He scored a career-high 15 points with a career-high eight boards in the win over Concordia last time out.
AND AS A RESULT...
Langston and Smith were tabbed as the Northeast-10 Conference Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for their play in the win over Concordia.
OWLS RANK NEAR THE TOP
Greg Langston is ranked third in the Northeast-10 in scoring, as he is averaging 17.5 points per contest. Teammate
Trevon Hamlet ranks fourth in that department, averaging 16.7 points per game.
BALANCED SCORING TRANSLATING INTO WINS
In five of its six wins this season, Southern Connecticut has had at least four players reach double digits in scoring. The Owls had a quintet hit the double digit mark in wins over Post, Adelphi and Concordia.
SHOWING SOME RESILIENCY
The Owls are 4-0 this season after a loss.
BLOCK PARTY CONTINUES
After being amongst the leaders in blocks within the Northeast-10 Conference last season,
Trevon Hamlet has picked up right where he left off by swatting away 28 shots through the Owls' first 10 games. Hamlet is first in the NE-10 in total blocks and in blocks per game (2.8).
HAMLET IN THE NCAA RANKINGS
Trevon Hamlet currently sits No. 12 in the NCAA in blocks per game with 2.8 per outing.
RAMSEY DOUBLES HIS PLEASURE
Senior
Kieran Ramsey had his first double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds in the win over Concordia. It was his 12th career double-double.
TRACKING THE TRENDS
The Owls have been perfect on the year when the following takes place:
• 4-0 when leading at halftime
• 4-0 when holding the opposition to 69 points or less
• 3-0 when scoring 80 or more points
• 3-0 when shooting 50-percent or better from the field
ON THE WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Trevon Hamlet has been tabbed for the Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll three times this year, with
Greg Langston earning the honor twice thus far.
NEWCOMERS IMPROVING NUCLEUS
Freshmen
Kyle Callanan and
Luke Houston have continued to make an impact for the Owls. Entrenched in a starting role, Callanan is averaging 6.0 points per game and is second on the team with 24 assists. Houston averages 6.6 points per contest. Meanwhile, transfer
Dominique Langston is third on the team in scoring with 13.3 points per game and leads the Owls in rebounding with 7.0 boards per contest.
ALL-TIME AGAINST BRIDGEPORT
Bridgeport leads the all-time series against the Owls with a 49-33 record. This meeting will be SCSU's 83rd game against Bridgeport, the most meetings against any opponent in program history.
HARRIS NAMED TEAM CAPTAIN
Senior guard
Chris Harris has been selected as team captain for the Owls in 2011-12.
IN SEASON OPENERS
With the victory over Post, the Owls are now 26-36 all-time in season openers.
IN THE NE-10 PRESEASON POLL
The Owls were selected eighth in the Northeast-10 Conference preseason poll. They finished tied for 10th in the regular season standings last season.

HAMLET RECEIVES PRESEASON HONORS
Junior forward
Trevon Hamlet has earned preseason All-American honors by The Sporting News. Last season as a sophomore, Hamlet collected All-ECAC and All-Northeast-10 Conference honors after averaging 17.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.3 blocks per game.
OWLS FINISH WITH FINE CAMPAIGN
The Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball team took a key step forward during the 2010-11 season. The Owls closed the year with 12 wins and qualified for the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament.
REACHING THE POST-SEASON
The berth in the NE-10 Tournament was the third for the Owls since joining the league, but the first in nine years. The Owls qualified in 2000-01 and 2001-02, but lost in the first round on both occasions.
THAT'S QUITE A TURNAROUND
The Owls posted the third-highest win turnaround in all of Division II last season. Only Georgia Southwestern and Adams State (Colo.) posted better win improvements than the Owls, who finished the year 10 wins better than the year prior.
HAMLET EARNS POST-SEASON RECOGNITION
Forward
Trevon Hamlet earned All-ECAC and All-Northeast-10 Conference honors after a fine sophomore season in which he averaged 17.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.3 blocks per contest for the Owls.
OWLS RANK AMONG THE NCAA LEADERS
The Owls closed the year ranked No. 8 in all of Division II in field goal percentage defense (.388) and No. 15 in blocked shots/game (4.6).
Trevon Hamlet closed the year ranked No. 19 with 2.3 blocks per game.
A GRAND ACCOMPLISHMENT
Thanks to a season-high 30 point effort at Assumption on Feb. 23 2010,
Trevon Hamlet went over the 1,000 point mark for his collegiate career. Hamlet tallied 540 points as a freshman at Post University and tallied 475 points as an Owl in 2010-11.
IT'S SIMPLE...SHOOT BETTER AND WIN
The Owls finished the 2010-11 season with a 9-1 mark when shooting better than their opponents and 3-14 when shooting worse than the opposition.
DEFENSE CAN TELL THE STORY
The Owls merited just 64.8 points per game in their 12 wins in 2010-11, but allowed 75.9 points per game in their 15 losses.
OWLS IN THE REGIONAL RANKINGS
Southern Connecticut was present in the NCAA Regional rankings for most of the latter half of the season, peaking as high as No. 7 in the rankings.
WELCOME TO THE DOUBLE DIGIT CLUB
Southern Connecticut reached double figures in victories last year for the first time since the 2001-02 season. That year's club finished 14-13, also the last time that the Owls posted a winning record.
THE CENTURY CLUB
Southern Connecticut reached the 100-point plateau in the Assumption game for the first time since Feb. 10, 2001, a 124-123 triple overtime loss against Pace.
ON DECK
The Owls will travel to Franklin Pierce on Jan. 3.
