No. 23 Nationally Ranked Baseball Defeats Felician, 13-2 and C.W. Post 4-1

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. – The No. 23 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University baseball team defeated Felician College, 13-2, this afternoon in its 2011 season opener. Ryan Yerina (Trumbull, Conn.) got the win in today's game, going seven innings and giving up two runs on eight hits. Yerina left Felician scoreless until the seventh inning when he gave up both runs. Freshman designated hitter #T.J. Shea# (Hamden, Conn.) led the team going 3-for-4 and also scored two runs.

Senior captain Nick DeProspo (Worcester, Mass.) belted a two-run homer in the sixth to give the Owls a 7-0 advantage. DeProspo finished out the day going 1-for-4 with two walks. #T.K. Kiernan# (Wallingford, Conn.) helped out by going two-for-three and two runs scored on the day.

In game two against C.W. Post, the Owls won 4-1.  Steve Landell (Higganum, Conn.) giving up one run over seven innings. Landell gave up three hits and struck out 13. Michael Johnston (Thomaston, Conn.)went two scoreless innings to pick up the save. Offensively five Owls collected hits on the day. Bryan Dorsey (Chesire, Conn.) went one-for-two with a triple and a run scored. Kiernan went one-for-three with a walk and two runs scored.


The Owls will play C.W. Post and Felician again tomorrow in Morehead City, N.C. The games are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. respectively.
